In the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), confirmation ministry helps a student identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in its mission. We at LCC are dedicated to this goal. Confirmation is a four year program for students 6-9th grade and includes large group instruction, small or peer group conversations, retreats, fellowship and service events.
Confirmation at LCC is a four year program. During 6th, 7th and 8th grade years, the students will learn about the Old Testament, New Testament, and a Lutheran studies year. The focus of 9th grade is connecting faith to different parts of our life. We facilitate learning in both large and small group settings. In addition, each year has a focus outside the Wednesday night sessions. These areas of extra focus are emphasized through a combination of workshops, retreats, and booklets which are completed each year.
6th GRADERS – BIBLE
6th graders and their parents will spend a year exploring the Bible. Through a “Bible Workshop” and their booklet, they will dig deeper into and learn the structure of the Bible.
7TH GRADERS – WORSHIP
There is a “Worship Workshop” to learn more about the Lutheran liturgy and structure of service. After that, parents and students will attend two different styles of worship that are not Lutheran as they explore worship in different settings.
8TH GRADERS – SOCIAL JUSTICE
There is a “Hunger Dinner” with parents and students. During this dinner, we take a wider look at hunger and learn how our faith ties into social issues.
9TH GRADERS – ROOTS OF FAITH
Each student will interview family members about their stories of faith and life and share these at the 9th grade retreat. This will help the students connect their family history to their own faith story, as they become adult members of the congregation.
